Sweet Sweet Peril

Saturday, Dec 16, 2006 Well tomorrow I take off on my bike again, finally. I've been working out the route with a friend of mine here that I ride with all the time. I'm nervous as all hell and the reason is the place I am going is really a nowhere place. Its a dirt road, and I've been told to expect traffic every 30min at most. There are no people for the first 80 or so miles so I will be camping in the bush on the side of the road for the first night, I have to be completely self sufficent. Read more...

The Misty Mountain Hop

🔖
Dec 26, 2006 Hey guys remember the scene from Lord of the Rings where the fellowship pass through the misty mountains? The song Led Zepplin sings? Yea you guessed it, I rode through em. They are not only called the misty mountains in LOTR. One Maori (native new zealanders, think American Indians but waaaay more baddass) I came across was really curious about why a person would be riding his bike on this hilly road. Read more...

Whangamata is the place. No, it doesnt actually have the word "wang" in it. Wh is pronounced ph here in NZ. So its actually Fang ah mata. Pretty cool eh? Well I'm having a great time, hot water beach was amazing, even if the water was a little too hot at times. I enjoyed staying with some friends for two days in the microscopic town of Hahei, we bbq'ed drank and hiked. Read more...

Please dont fart anymore!

Because I'm in Rotorua, A.K.A Fartopolis, where all farts go after being let out of your ass. Its a really, really, smelly city. I only just got here yesterday, and I've been keeping busy, oh yes. I think the last time I wrote i was in Whangamata, well I've been through a few towns and cities since then and had my fair share of adventures. I think one of my best memories already here in New Zealand has been Kati Kati, where I stayed on an elderly couples farm, with one other Swiss guy named Toby. Read more...

Out of the city, woohoo!

And its about time, too. Auckland was starting to get to me, and my pocketbook. So I took that ferry to the Coromandel Peninsula and stayed a night at this rad hippy/alternative hostel lat night. I met 2 Israli guys and one girl from New York and we all planned on meeting tomorrow at a place called hot water beach. Get this: when the tide is low you can dig a hole in the sand and the thermal activity under the sand heats the water to make a natural hot tub. Read more...

I did a lot of exploring today! This time i walked far away from the reach of most tourists, so I got some genuine local New Zealand experience. I visited a nice grassy park, where people were playing rugby and skating in a skate park. After that I went to a market, that was full of hilarious novelty items. My favorite was this guy selling ties with all kinds of crude drawings on them - from humping pigs to erict penii and vodka bottles. Read more...

Second day in Auckland

🔖
Well this would be my second day here in the wonderful city of Auckland, I plan for today to go a little better than yesterday. I spent most of my time Saturday walking around the city looking for a bike shop that had moved, and when I finally did find it, was closed. In a way it was good though, I am pretty familiar with downtown Auckland already, and I'm starting to get used to the cars driving on the wrong side of the road. Read more...
